IQ Metal UK were featured in Architects Datafile Magazine April 2016 issue. The title of the article is ‘Innovations in Steel Window Fabrication’. The article starts with some background on how steel windows and doors were first produced, dating back to the medieval period when local blacksmiths would create bespoke windows from wrought iron.
After a great increase in the manufacturing of steel windows, aluminium became a lot more popular due to the low maintenance finish as well as the thermal break technology involved. However, with advances in cold rolled steel profiles, steel windows are now thermally broken and are being made to follow and exceed modern Building Regulations whilst also maintaining their slim and elegant finish.
These modern, thermally efficient steel windows are perfect for recreating Art Deco and industrial designs that have recently become very popular. The next part of the article focused on the different materials available including galvanised steel, Corten™ Steel, Architectural Bronze and Stainless Steel. With the choice of these materials, you are able to create your own steel windows and doors that are unique to your home.
